Richardson City Council Work Session October 2nd, 2023
Six of the seven councilmembers are present as well as City Manager Don Magner and City Secretary Aimee Nemer. Mayor Dubey is absent.
Seven comment cards are submitted on the topic of short-term rentals. Three public speakers ask Council to ban short-term rentals.
City Manager Don Magner explains that Mayor Dubey had to attend to a family emergency. I do hope everything is okay.
The last item is a proclamation recognizing the heroic efforts of Gicela Aleman. Gicela was shopping at the Allen Outlets on May 6th when an armed individual began opening fire on innocent shoppers. Gicela did not flee. Instead, she used her training as a nurse to save the life of Preeti Patel, who was severely wounded by the shooter. Gicela administered lifesaving care and then drove Preeti to the hospital. Preeti Patel is alive today because of the actions of Gicela Aleman, a proud Richardson resident. Council expresses their gratitude for Gicela, and the proclamation is presented.
Council discusses the recent Greenwood Hills Elementary PTA Bike Rodeo, the Richardson Reads One Book event, the Asian-American Culture Festival, and the Richardson Interfaith Alliance ‘Feeding Children Everywhere’ event.
The originally planned executive session to conduct a performance review of the city manager will be rescheduled for a future meeting. Meeting adjourned.
